Today, the independent music festival and event organization, LEVITATION, announces a new partnership with Greenway Records. For over a decade, LEVITATION (formerly known as Austin Psych Fest) has been a prominent voice fostering creativity and community with its events and releases around the globe.

The organization’s label branch, The Reverberation Appreciation Society announces that Harry Portnof is officially joining the LEVITATION team as the new label head, co-managing with LEVITATION and RAS founder Rob Fitzpatrick. Portnof is the founder of Greenway Records, a DIY label, based and operated in Brooklyn, New York. There, he has cultivated a wellspring of excitement around a new era of garage/psychedelic-leaning artists like Acid Dad, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Levitation Room, L.A. Witch, Stonefield, and more. His signature trait is the label’s boundary-pushing, aesthetically compelling, limited-run vinyl pressings.

Portnof looks forward to bringing that same passion and enthusiasm to The Reverberation Appreciation Society, which is preparing an exciting release schedule after a brief hiatus. So far, in 2020 the revamped label has released new records from Holy Wave and Ringo Deathstarr, which will be followed by the upcoming full-length album from Frankie and the Witch Fingers, co-released by LEVITATION’s label RAS & Greenway Records.

LEVITATION was founded in 2008 by Christian Bland and Alex Maas of The Black Angels, Oswald James, and Rob Fitzpatrick, who has headed up booking and creative direction for all things Levitation, and the record label, for over a decade. In 2017, long-time collaborator Johnny Sarkis joined the partnership, bringing decades of event experience into the fold. In addition to the flagship event in Austin, the group has curated LEVITATION events in France, Chicago, and Vancouver, along with ongoing events in Austin and special events in Europe and Latin America, plus a huge, diverse annual LEVITATION showcase at SXSW. LEVITATION FRANCE will celebrate its’ 8th year on Oct 9 & 10 2020, in Angers, FR  – the largest event of its kind in Europe. Since 2010, The Reverberation Appreciation Society record label has released records by key bands in the psych and garage rock scene like Night Beats, Holy Wave, Ringo Deathstarr, and many more – with new releases on the horizon.

Frankie and the Witch Fingers herald their new 7″ with the deliriously heavy howl of “Cavehead.” The scorching, rhythm wracked track pulls from both exhaust-huffed biker psych and the polyrhythmic propulsion of Talking Heads. They pair the song with a mindbending, entheogenic video that gives new life to Terrence McKenna’s Stoned Ape Theory. Directed by, filmed, and starring the inimitable Railroad Bill, the clip whips by in a blur of survival panic until Bill’s Early Man encounters the door to higher consciousness via fungal embrace. From there on out the video is soaked in a psylocibin-induced day-glo euphoria, pulsing along to the twisted dance that Frankie and the Witch Fingers lay down in thick portions. Like our prehistoric protagonist, it’s hard to tell if this is the end or a new beginning, but it’s definitely a heady ride either way. The single precedes the band’s upcoming album, details on that coming very soon.

After a stretch on Chicago/LA flagship Permanent Records the band landed at yet another fabled enclave of garage and psychedelia – Brooklyn’s Greenway Records, now working in tandem with psych powerhouse LEVITATION and their label The Reverberation Appreciation Society, the group’s latest effort is dually supported by a RAS / Greenway co-release.

Record Store Day has unfortunately been moved for a second time due to covid-19. We’re bummed that we’ll have to wait a bit longer, but we know these decisions are tough, and the delays are necessary. Frankie and the Witch Fingers debut LP Sidewalk will be dropping via Greenway for RSD on 10/24 (just in time for Halloween) Originally this RSD release was limited to 500 Mermaid Fizz Splatters only being available in the US and Canada. With the new found time we are excited to officially get a 2nd variation “Cocaine Dream” Swirl Vinyl into RSD UK and EU 💥 300 swirl copies will be made available first to local record stores on 10/24 in the UK and EU along with Mermaid Fizz in the US and Canada! “Quarantine” the new single by Levitation Room is out today! Inspired by, written and recorded in Quarantine. 💥 “Quarantine” is a song about isolation in the face of the reality and uncertainty of this unprecedented time we find ourselves in. The guitar is picked like a Simon & Garfunkel tune, sung and expressed like a Jackson C. Frank melody and the harmonica cries like the mood of a slow Dylan number. A personal song, with the intention of expressing and encapsulating the spirit of the times. 💙🖤
