UPDATE: SXSW 2020 has been canceled due to COVID-19. We are incredibly proud of the months of hard work and planning and collaborative effort that went into what would have been Greenway’s biggest and most significant event in Austin to date. But we WILL get back to Texas and plan to do it up even bigger and better next time! Wash your hands, stay safe, stay green.

Ricky Hell & The Voidboys are back with another dose of lo-fi gutter pop that is sure to infect both your turntable and ear holes with joy. Our friends over at Alt Citizen have shared the first single “Strychnine” from the brand new Ricky Hell & The Voidboys LP and the single is complemented perfectly with a video by the incredible Sztuka Naiwna!

“Ricky Hell & The Voidboys have stumbled on something delicious with the first single from their upcoming sophomore album L’Appel Du Vide (French for “the call of the void”), a tasty throwback to the alternative sounds of the mid-1980s. High, chiming guitars filtered through a wall of hazy static. Flat, workman like percussion. A bassline that exists less like actual sound and more like a suggestion urging you to dance just a little, but not too much. We pressed up two versions, a shiny metallic silver vinyl sporting a small center hole and a tripped out hand-pour with the classic large center.

“See Her Light kicks off with a blast of noodling lo-fi guitars and uptempo rhythms as frontman Glenn Brigman’s vocals come through front-and-center. Triptides’ dreamy production gloss hovers over the breezy sonic tapestry as all the instrumental layers ebb and flow in hypnotic fashion. Explosive guitars, bass and drums eventually coalesce into a rousing noise jam that brings the track home in cathartic fashion. Overall, “See Her Light” is a terrific psychedelic love song, and another mesmerizing cut from Triptides.

The track’s video, meanwhile, is a dazzling collage shot on Super 8 by drummer Brendan Peleo-Lazar. It features footage from various locales including Athens, Greece, Belgium and the Caribbean – complete with shots of people on jet skis, horse-drawn carriages, and ruins from ancient Greek structures. The clip captures the track’s zoned-out vibe with deft visual aplomb.”
