Frankie and the Witch Fingers herald their new 7″ with the deliriously heavy howl of “Cavehead.” The scorching, rhythm wracked track pulls from both exhaust-huffed biker psych and the polyrhythmic propulsion of Talking Heads. They pair the song with a mindbending, entheogenic video that gives new life to Terrence McKenna’s Stoned Ape Theory. Directed by, filmed, and starring the inimitable Railroad Bill, the clip whips by in a blur of survival panic until Bill’s Early Man encounters the door to higher consciousness via fungal embrace. From there on out the video is soaked in a psylocibin-induced day-glo euphoria, pulsing along to the twisted dance that Frankie and the Witch Fingers lay down in thick portions. Like our prehistoric protagonist, it’s hard to tell if this is the end or a new beginning, but it’s definitely a heady ride either way. The single precedes the band’s upcoming album, details on that coming very soon.

After a stretch on Chicago/LA flagship Permanent Records the band landed at yet another fabled enclave of garage and psychedelia – Brooklyn’s Greenway Records, now working in tandem with psych powerhouse LEVITATION and their label The Reverberation Appreciation Society, the group’s latest effort is dually supported by a RAS / Greenway co-release.

“See Her Light kicks off with a blast of noodling lo-fi guitars and uptempo rhythms as frontman Glenn Brigman’s vocals come through front-and-center. Triptides’ dreamy production gloss hovers over the breezy sonic tapestry as all the instrumental layers ebb and flow in hypnotic fashion. Explosive guitars, bass and drums eventually coalesce into a rousing noise jam that brings the track home in cathartic fashion. Overall, “See Her Light” is a terrific psychedelic love song, and another mesmerizing cut from Triptides.

The track’s video, meanwhile, is a dazzling collage shot on Super 8 by drummer Brendan Peleo-Lazar. It features footage from various locales including Athens, Greece, Belgium and the Caribbean – complete with shots of people on jet skis, horse-drawn carriages, and ruins from ancient Greek structures. The clip captures the track’s zoned-out vibe with deft visual aplomb.”

It’s 2019 and the words ‘rock’ and ‘female-led’ have rejoined the conversation with Big Eyes’ new album, Streets of the Lost. As an album chasing, “Classic power pop songwriting with hard rock dual leads and a punk edge,” Big Eyes succeed in delivering more than just the traditional two-minute angry blast of sound. From tackling the tragedy of suicide on “The Upside” to laughing in the face of adolescence on “Young, Dumb and Bored,” the band presents a fully-formed idea of unrelenting guitars and percussion that anyone could find meaning in. The addition of tastefully electrifying vocals only contributes to the overall humility and humanity of the album.

You’ve already heard the song “Lucky You”,  “Hourglass” is presented hand in hand with its grainy, psychedelic video. “We wanted to try something new for the ‘Hourglass’ video, so we went with more of a trippy, psychedelic vibe instead of a specific storyline or more literal interpretation, like most of our other videos,” singer/guitarist Kait Eldridge tells us. “Your mind can play tricks on ya! Time is relative! History repeats itself! Thank you to Sztuka Naiwna for doing such a killer job!” The new song is classic Big Eyes, with a flashy twin-lead solo worked in for good measure. “I think this was the last one I wrote for the album. It starts out about being broke, but it’s more about what it takes to make art in this current moment in history. Basically, creative autonomy and support from society, specifically in terms of money. You go to Europe and the arts in general are supported and well-funded, even venues and bands themselves. It’s different here.

Today we exorcise a demon. The brand new Acid Dad single “Living With A Creature” reflects both on death of the old and a birth of something new. The new video is up on Consequence of Sound right now and we hope you find the same peace as we search together.
